Goods Receipt for Production Orders is the process of receiving finished goods or semi-finished products from your manufacturing operations into inventory[5].
When do I post GR for Production Orders?
- Production completion: When manufacturing order is finished
- Partial completion: When some quantity is completed and ready
- Co-products receipt: When additional products are produced alongside main product
- By-products receipt: When secondary materials are generated during production
How to post GR for Production Orders:
Using MIGO Transaction:
- Enter transaction MIGO
- Select A01 - Goods Receipt
- Choose R08 - Order as reference document type
- Enter Production Order number
- System displays materials to be received (finished goods, co-products)
- Enter actual quantities produced
- Verify destination storage location
- Post the goods receipt
Using Direct Production Order:
- Display Production Order (CO03)
- Go to Functions menu
- Select "Goods Receipt"
- System opens MIGO with production order details
What movement type is used?
Movement Type 101: Standard goods receipt for production[5]
- Stock type: Unrestricted-use stock (normal case)
- Stock type: Quality inspection (if quality management is active)[5]
- Stock type: Blocked stock (if immediate quality check needed)
What information do I need?
Essential Data:
- Production Order number
- Actual quantity produced (may differ from planned)
- Storage location for finished goods
- Production date
Optional Data:
- Batch number for the produced material[5]
- Manufacturing data (shift, line, operator)
- Quality certificates or test results
- Shelf life information for perishable products
How to handle quality inspection requirements:
If material requires inspection:
- Stock type automatically set to "Quality Inspection"[5][3]
- Materials cannot be used until quality release
- QM lot created automatically for inspection
- Stock moves to unrestricted after successful inspection
What happens after posting Production GR?
Inventory Impact:
- Finished goods stock increases
- WIP (Work-in-Process) decreases if configured
- Component stock remains consumed (already issued)
Production Order Impact:
- Order status updates to show partial/complete delivery
- Actual costs are calculated and allocated
- Variances between planned and actual become visible
Cost Accounting:
- Production costs transferred from order to finished goods
- Standard cost variances calculated if using standard costing
- Material consumption and labor costs finalized
