Article 73 - Master Data objects

Article 73: How Are Master Data Objects Managed and Maintained for SAP MM-TM?

Governance Principles:

  • Single point of truth: Assign clear ownership for updating vehicles, drivers, carriers, and cleaners.
  • Regular reviews: Scheduled audits for expiring documents, outdated resources, or contract data.
  • Validation: Automated checks (e.g., no expired licenses on drivers, matching capacity with truck specs).
  • System integration: Dataset is master for all SAP logistics processes—errors here affect all planning.

Process for Changes:

  • Use SAP change management workflows with approvals for major edits (new truck, retiring vehicle, etc.).
  • Centralize changes via MDG (Master Data Governance) or dedicated master data roles.
  • Remove duplicates and ensure cross-reference/linking (e.g., driver tied to correct truck, materials to route constraints).
